ImageJ integrates a variety of tools such as adjustment, enhancement and geometric operations (measured, rotated), also offering you to perform various geometric transformations, create density histograms, perform three-dimensional visualization, perform logical and arithmetic operations between pictures etc.

It can edit, analyze 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit images and can also open multiple file types, including TIFF, GIF, JPEG, BMP, DICOM, FITS and raw.

ImageJ is capable of working with multiple images simultaneously, applying different filters and performing serial processing of files. Moreover, it contains many plugins that greatly improve the software possibilities and that we let you discover.

There is also the possibility of creating macros, which allows you to build your own tools, and over 200 macros are available on the publisher's website.

In conclusion, ImageJ is capable of analyzing images and obtaining detailed technical data and accepts standard image processing functions, such as contrast manipulation, sharpening, smoothing, edge detection, and median filtering.

ImageJ is great. We have been using it for years at my University. Keeping in mind the price, and the collaborative method used to develop it, I think it is an awesome product. It is very versatile, and we use if for electron microscopy, astronomical images, and everything in between. It is mostly designed for medical/biology uses though.
