Alpus was reviewed by Horia Petrovanu
Alpus is a dictionary software that allows you to quickly search for word definitions from multiple sources both in offline and online mode.
Alpus imports dictionaries that are subsequently analyzed, indexed and optimized, without allowing duplication of database storage, while you can edit and customize the properties of a dictionary. The files that can be imported and compatible with the software are: StarDict, XDXF, DSL, DICTD and TSV / Plain, compatibility with ZIM files and MediaWiki databases.
At first glance, the software interface seems simplistic and difficult to understand, but upon further analysis we realized how it works. First of all, we have to import the files that contain the dictionaries (you have to download - 2 examples that you can import in the software), then, you just have to write at the top of the interface the word searched and give search, in case there is that word in the database, in response you will receive a list with that word and all its associations.
In conclusion, Alpus is a free software application, part of the education category, with useful features which makes it one of the most versatile learning software.
Alpus is Java based, and you can use it on Windows or Linux platforms and on Mac.
