The LCD screen continues to evolve in 2021 and LG has introduced a new QNED technology, which is based on a backlight system with Mini LEDs.
Ahead of CES 2021, which will be a virtual event, and during which LG should present the new range of TVs for 2021, the South Korean manufacturer announces that some of the LCD models will be equipped with a screen with QNED technology.
LG QNED has the best contrast in LCD and is based on Mini LEDs, LEDs much smaller than those currently found on LCD TVs. To cover the entire surface of the board, up to 30,000 mini LEDs are needed for the LG QNED 2021 model, with 2,500 dark areas and more than likely an only 86-inch TV.
This system makes it possible to achieve a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1, incredible for an LCD screen, and therefore to provide a much better HDR.
LG also states that it still considers OLED to be the best consumer technology today and that it is still the very end of the brands TVs.
QNED will be incorporated into some LG premium 8K and 4K TVs in 2021. In the coming days, Samsung, in turn, is expected to present an equivalent to its competitors QNED.
