Following the release of Ubuntu 20.10, Canonical has announced the new name for the next version of its GNU / Linux system. After the elegant gorilla, make room for ... the hippopotamus!

Officially released as a stable release, Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla has brought a lot of new features. The Canonical publisher continues its development cycle and true to its traditions, the company continues to follow the alphabet to dictate the names of its versions.

Hirsute Hippo is therefore the official name of Ubuntu 21.04, which will be released in the final version at the end of April. This will be the third edition to borrow the letter H. In the past, Ubuntu 5.04 was called Hoary Hedgehog and Ubuntu 8.04 was called Hardy Heron.

In the new version, Hirsute Hippo, benefits from the GNOME 40 desktop environment and the Linux kernel from version 5.11, as well as the Mesa 21.0 graphics library.

Of course, the applications delivered by default, namely Firefox, Thunderbird and the Libre Office suite software will also be updated.

The beta version of Ubuntu 21.04 will be released on April 1.
